New-tangro-tool: Text recognition through data entry
tangro has developed a completely new and particularly efficient and convenient way of improving text recognition. The new tool is part of the tangro Inbound Suite for automatically processing incoming documents for SAP.
It allows the clerk processing the order to correct the content using normal data entry without any additional effort. Solutions for identifying text involve technology for simple optical character recognition (OCR), i.e. the simple image is converted into text. The meaning and semantics of the text are identified with the help of intelligent mechanisms such as pattern matching at specific locations. The possibility of correcting text is important since all content may not always be uniquely recognised. In order for the system to recognise e.g. an invoice number as such, the location where the number is to be found in the document must be linked to the corresponding field in the processing mask. However, this process is often complicated and time-consuming in commonly used systems for processing incoming documents, and the link is often established in an upstream system – a task that is not necessarily part of the job of the order processing clerk.
tangro's new option for correcting recognised text offers significantly greater efficiency and convenience. This means that the process of data entry runs parallel to the job of recognition. The order processing clerk simply types an unrecognised invoice number in the incoming document into the appropriate field of the tangro mask. The clerk thus performs his/her usual work while tangro establishes the link in the background. The data entered are presented to the clerk, who can check them at a glance. The relevant text in the document image is highlighted in colour with a mouse-click in the field in the tangro processing mask. In this way, the entire content that has been captured is available for all future processing without the clerk having to intervene.
"It is important for us that our customers can process their incoming documents easily, quickly and efficiently without having to deal with technology. We ensure this using our unique approach to correcting recognised text," explains tangro Managing Director Andreas Schumann.
In addition to the new option, it is still possible to correct recognised text subsequently using drag & drop.
